AFTERCARE

Tattoo Aftercare Instructions

Congratulations on your new tattoo! Proper care is essential to ensure your tattoo heals beautifully and lasts a lifetime. Follow these aftercare steps:

1. Keep It Clean

  • First Wash: Gently remove the bandage after 2-4 hours (unless otherwise instructed). Wash your hands first, then clean the tattoo using lukewarm water and a fragrance-free, antibacterial soap.

  • Pat Dry: Use a clean, soft paper towel or allow the area to air dry. Avoid rubbing.

2. Apply Moisturizer

  • Once the tattoo is dry, apply a thin layer of a tattoo-friendly ointment or fragrance-free lotion (like Aquaphor or a tattoo-specific balm). Do not overapply.

3. Let It Breathe

  • Avoid re-bandaging unless advised by your artist. Allow your tattoo to breathe to promote healing.

4. Protect Your Tattoo

  • Avoid Sun: Keep your tattoo out of direct sunlight. After it’s fully healed, always use sunscreen with SPF 30+ to prevent fading.

  • No Soaking: Avoid swimming, hot tubs, or soaking in baths for 2-3 weeks. Quick showers are fine.

5. Don’t Pick or Scratch

  • It’s normal for your tattoo to scab and itch during healing. Resist the urge to pick or scratch—it could cause scarring or loss of ink.

6. Wear Loose Clothing

  • Opt for loose, breathable clothing that won’t rub against your tattoo. Tight fabrics can cause irritation.

Healing Timeline

  • Days 1-3: Redness and slight swelling are normal.

  • Days 4-14: Scabbing, flaking, and itching may occur. Moisturize regularly.

  • Weeks 2-4: Your tattoo will look slightly dull or milky as it heals.

When to Contact Your Artist or a Doctor

  • If you notice signs of infection (excessive redness, pus, or prolonged swelling) or if you have any concerns about healing, contact your tattoo artist or a medical professional immediately.
